Dwight Lawing is a watercolorist and also teaches at San Juan College in Farmington. After years of painting he realizes that his art is a journey without a destination and his paintings are merely footprints in the sand.
Tess Corrinne Jordans paintings explore the connection between daily life and intimacy with objects. Her paintings reveal layers of paint, each layer affected by the previous ones just as people are tied closely to the layers of memories surrounding home and the intimacy created with a place.
Coni Grant is influenced by nature and her surroundings. Outside for Coni, be it natural or urban, is where her inspiration is born, and her paintings are the expression of the connection she feels with a place. She says any day painting is a good day.
Henry Woolbert and Kathy Park collaborate on the creation of three-dimensional spirit masks. Their interaction leads to unusual ideas and fresh materials, including recycled objects. The body of work is mysterious, humorous and evocative of the spirit world.

- Jul 3, 2008 - Jul 25, 2008
Artist's Reception: Jul 25, 2008
One of the highlights of 2008 will be the second Artists Collaborative Exhibit. The exhibit will not take place until the end of June but we are letting the artists know now to begin their collaborative effort so that we will have some extraordinary pieces ready come June. For this exhibit artists are asked to participate in a collaborative effort to create works of a most unusual nature. Each work of art created by a collaborative group will be required to have the artistic contributions of at least three artists, and as many as seven. All media is welcome and expected. How you collaborate is up to you, many artists will simply add their creative smootz to the piece then move it on to the next artist, some groups will choose to collaborate from the onset. If you are an artist and would like to pull a group together simply call Susan Andersen or Susan Belshe at the Art Center 970-259-2606 to sign up and save a spot. If you are an individual artist and would like to participate call or e-mail us with your name and we will link you up with other individual artists to create a collaborative group. The benefit of this kind of exhibition is two fold, first it helps each artist contribute in a way that will most likely stretch the creative zones within the artist psyche and second at the end of the exhibit we will auction off the works of art to benefit the Exhibits Program at the DAC. Remember this will be a donation on the artists part; however any artist at the auction may choose to bid on the piece they collaborated on or any other piece. Application Deadline Only so many spots are available - when we have reached capacity we will post it on the web-site. Address questions regarding the application process to Susan Andersen, Exhibits Director, Durango Arts Center, 802 E. 2nd Ave, Durango, CO 81301, 970/247.2606, fax 970/259-6571 or susan@durangoarts.org.
